Bike Committee Public Meeting
Monday, May 16th, 2011
6:00 p.m. Council Chambers of City Hall

The meeting was called to order to discuss the lane reduction on North A St.

Members Present: Councilman Chris Mann, Councilman Dave Watson, Christine deVlamning, Councilman Brian Garrison. Also in attendance was Mayor Larry Bagwell, Fox Simons, Alan Porter with Land Planning & Associates, Gaye Sprague with Sprague & Sprague, Eric Dillon with the SCDOT.  Lisa Garrett served as the recording secretary. Julie Howle with the Greenville News was present. Six citizens were in attendance.

The project length is .67 miles from NE Main to Alfred St.  The road would be reduced to two lanes with medians for turning, landscaping medians, and a bike/pedestrian lane.  The plan was redesigned to have access to Runion St. There will be no changes to the intersection at NE Main there will still be a left and right hand turn land.  Mr. Simons has requested that a traffic study be done at that intersection for a possible red light.

A traffic study was done on North A St. the maximum traffic count is 20,000 it is currently around 9000.

A new Easley sign would be at the red light at Fleetwood welcoming people into the downtown area.

Gaye Sprague, Alan Porter, and Eric Dillon explained the details of the project with a power point presentation. They answered questions from the citizens.

According to the studies the road diet would slow down traffic on North A, make it more pedestrian/bicycle friendly and more eye appealing. Also with the median it would be easier to make turns off and onto North A.

The meeting was adjourned.
