Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee Meeting October 13, 2011

Members Present; Councilman Chris Mann, Councilman Brian Garrison, Christine de Vlaming.

Councilman Mann called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. There are many projects in the works and sometimes it looks like there is nothing going on but the projects are just moving slowly.  The Couch Lane project should be the first project to be completed in 2012.  The North A St. project will not start until sometime in early 2012.

Christine deVlaming went over the PELCOR meeting.  It was a great turn out with all cities represented.  The City of Pickens has made the most progress with the Town Creek Park and a Ride Garden.

There is a suggested Ride Park at Kings Park. The park has 14 acres and is very sloping which would make for a different set of ride features.  This was not part of the Master Plan but was on the wish list.

Right now momentum is great between the cities and the goal is to get the public to go from designation to designation and stay overnight, which would add to hotel accommodations and hospitality tax.  It will be great for tourism.

The connection between the new Brushy Creek Greenway and the new Easley High School is dead at the present time.

There is a bike-a-thon this weekend at the hospital and there will be a bike helmet give-away. At the Fire Department open house 25 helmets were given away.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 a.m.
